Introduction

Numbering about 6,900 inhabitants, Weh is located in Wum Subdivision, Menchum Division. The majority of the population are subsistence farmers. Communication network is difficult especially, in the rainy season.

Movement to Wum for supervision of the project is difficult. The people are ruled by a Fon assisted by five sub chiefs.

General Information

The main denominations here are: Catholic, Presbyterian, Baptist, Apostolic and the Full Gospel Mission. 40% of the population are churchgoers. Many practice traditional reli-gion. Islam is also practice by the Hausa and Fulani people in the community. The sociolinguistic survey work was carried out by SIL in 1994. In May 2008, CABTAL sent a facilitator, Derrick Aseh, to the community. An SIL linguist is carrying out basic linguistic research on the language with a group of Weh speakers to enable the translation project to progress. The Weh community has established an Inter Church Committee and a Language Committee. The facilitator is continuing with mobilisation and vision sharing. The majority of the pastors are not village based nor natives of the community. The community is motivated and are longing to take part in the project and to see to its realisation.

Expected Results

It is expected that the churches and the community will be adequately mobilised to carry out the project within the time limit, and it will cause a great transformation in the lives of the people and growth in their faith.
It is anticipated that the translated Scriptures will be read and understood by the Weh community. The literacy rate of the people will increase and this will bring about development in the community.

Prayer point

Pray that the people will receive and be filled with the knowledge of the Lord as the waters cover the sea, let the kingdom of God come to the people and his will be done among them. Read Isaiah 11:9 and Matthew 6:10
